About Forester Outdoor

Forester Outdoor is located in the Dallas Galleria District, centrally located along the Dallas North Tollway to connect downtown Dallas with the continuous growth in Collin and Denton Counties.  Downtown hosts major businesses, arts, entertainment, Reunion Tower, Love Field, and American Airlines Center (Mavericks and Stars).  With the growth in North Texas, our locations target major corporate offices along the tollway, commuters to the northern suburbs around Frisco, FC Dallas, Cowboy’s Frisco Star practice facility, and the new major retail and entertainment around Grandscape in The Colony.

Herschel Forester, Sr. – Founder

Herschel Forester was born in 1931. Raised in East Dallas, he attended Woodrow Wilson HS and played football at SMU.  His brother Bill played with Herschel at SMU. Bill went on to play 11 years for the Green Bay Packers and Herschel played four years for the Cleveland Browns in 1958, Herschel married a lovely and classy lady named Sally Rogers from Athens, Tx. He opened an insurance company and began venturing into commercial real estate investing.  In 1972 he bought a 4 acre piece of land on the Dallas North Parkway North about a mile north of LBJ 635.  LBJ opened in 1969.  Surrounding this 4 acre piece of property were acres and acres of cotton fields and a few farmhouses here and there.  The tollway from downtown Dallas to 635 (LBJ) was completed in 1968. It was extended from 635 (LBJ) to Briargrove ( and past the property) in 1987.  In 1982 and 1983 the two Tollway billboards, and the two Spring Valley billboards were built.  Looking back at pictures it is interesting to see how much raw land was still along the parkway when those billboards were erected. Today there is no raw land anywhere to be seen. 

Herschel died in 2018 and passed on the billboard business to his son and daughter, Suzanne and Herschel.

Herschel Forester, Jr. – Co-Owner

Herschel Junior grew up in Dallas. A highlight of his career in high school football was the opportunity to play a game at Forester field (named after his coach, school teacher, and grandfather) which is a DISD sports complex in East Dallas. Herschel graduated from Dallas Baptist University, and also Dallas Theological Seminary. After 30 years of working in the Pool Service industry, while also helping dad for a few years, Herschel Junior sold his pool business.  Now, our business is leasing and managing the four billboards and the four retail spaces on the property. Herschel and Cindy have four sons and are now empty nesters. They enjoy encouraging Christian ministries, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Suzanne (right) and her husband, Steve, live in Kansas City, Missouri where they enjoy being close to and spending time with their two sons, daughter-in-law, and new granddaughter.

James Robison – Sales & Operations

James was originally born in Chicago and grew up in Ft. Worth.  While attending UT Austin, James made the tough decision to move back to Ft. Worth to be closer to his family.  Finishing his degree at UT Arlington, he met his wife and they have two sons.  James spent the first 10 years of his advertising career selling national television at a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises in Dallas.  In 2009, James made the transition over to outdoor advertising, and has really appreciated the opportunity to work with the Forester family managing their billboard company.
